I'm told this is the second largest canyon in the US, but most people have never heard of it. Not only is there good scenery, but wildlife and wildflowers are abundant.

Beautiful place and nice shots. Sorry for my limited geographic knowledge, but I've never heard of it, where is it?

Awesome colors Stan.
I hadn't heard of it either but a quick Google reveals that it's in Texas. It looks like an Arizona scene, but Texas? Who woulda thunk it? LOL

Thanks for the comments. As a couple people mentioned, Palo Duro Canyon is in the Texas Panhandle, not too far from Amarillo. It does look somewhat like Arizona canyons, but much more vegetation than Utah canyons.

I go down to PDC at least once or twice a month, considering I live 10 miles from there.
You realllly should go see Texas (a play in the canyon, http://www.texas-show.com) at least once in your lifetime.

Beautiful place. I might suggest to tone down the saturation a little and try using a ND graded filter to darken the sky for the horizon shots. Good shots. That will have to be my next stop. Went to Big Bend and Davis Mtns. in Oct 2007

Really like the shots. I will be going in Summer. I also want to get back to the Alpine area. Funny thing is some people do not think there is any beauty in West Texas and yet I find stuff all the time. I work on the Rattlesnake Bomber Base and we have found some wonderful history out there. Keep up the good work.

I grew up about 25 miles from there. Another state park, Caprock Canyons State Park, in the Texas Panhandle is also very pretty. In a lot of ways, I like Caprock Canyons better than Palo Duro.
Nice pics! Makes me homesick.

I was there some time ago myself. Do they still have the train that runs through the park?

Yes, I remember not seeing the pictures.;)
I have been to the Palo Duro Canyon a few times. Once was a camping trip in the middle of the summer ... not a good idea as it can be miserably hot all night in mid summer. The musical, "Texas" is worth seeing and the backdrop for the stage is impressive.

Thanks. I just discovered this had been resurrected. In the first, I totally blew the sky, but would like to think it wouldn't happen today. As mentioned, the play "Texas" was great, and we also enjoyed Caprock Canyons SP.

That makes you a relatively close neighbor to my brother over in Clarendon.
OP: Nice shot!

This makes me want to search through some of my pictures of the canyon. I live in amarillo and my sister worked for the texas musical for a time.
