Ok, this is not fun. I know some of you gave me some advice on what tripod mount ring to use for my Canon 80-200/2.8 L. I've contacted a seller here in Sweden that in turn have been in contact with Canon who claims they have discontinued this model for my lens.
I then emailed B&H and asked them if they had it... nope, they say it's discontinued for this model. And the only suggestion they had was to get a Manfrotto-Bogen thing, that can support tele lenses.... ugly and akward looking thing to boot.
Are these people wrong, are they not aware there's other models that would fit my "tube"? Or am I so unlucky that this item is in fact discontinued. No more support (pun intended).
I need advice again.

I had an 80-200/2.8L at the same time as the 70-200/4L, and the tripod ring from the 80-200 fitted the 70-200. I now have a 300/4L (non-IS), and its tripod ring also fits the 70-200. I've seen a number of people who say that they've used the same ring for the 200/2.8L and the 70-200/4L. So at the very least, the same size tripod ring works for:
80-200/2.8L 200/2.8L 300/4L (non-IS) 70-200/4L

gcogger, and what's the model on that one? Is it the same model as the one joeseph was linking to at FM?
joeseph, thanks! Looks like I'm a bit late though, a few has already replied. But I've sent the guy an email and I'm going to keep my fingers crossed.

Petra,
Obviously this situation calls for some good-ole American redneck engineering.
Just send me your 80-200 2.8 L and your tripod and I'll custom fabricate a precision-made adapter just for you. No charge, since you're a loyal POTN contributor.
Expect to have your stuff back in 3 or 4 months, or the end of the bikini season in Chigago, whichever comes first.
Don't worry. I know what I'm doing. Did I mention I made my own version of the Lightsphere II out of a 1 gallon milk jug (patent pending)? I'm good at this stuff!

Curtis N, you are soo nice.... but you know what... the Swedish bikini team is here... so you might want to pop over here and do the adjustments.... and if you're real lucky I'll point you into the directio nof the *non* bikini team beach.... were they only wear their birthday suit. :D :D :D :D

Add the 400 f5.6L to this list, and if that's the case, this would do it:

And its even black!
Hope this helps.

Ok, I've found a swedish site that sells them (can't wait for an order from the US, since I'm short of time)... so the prics is HIGH... it says:
Canon Stativfäste A (svart) för EF 200/2,8 L /II USM/ EF 80-200/2,8L USM, EF 200/2,8 L
Which translates to "Tripod mount A (black) for ..... (well the lens brands you do recognize).
Is that it?

(extra note, there's no picture on the site, so it's hard for me to compare the look from the B&H site and that Swedish one).

the Swedish bikini team is here...I knew I recognized your avatar from somewhere! I'll point you into the direction of the *non* bikini team beach...Hmm. I just checked the weather forcast for your location (about spitting distance from the arctic circle), and, well, 16 degrees C is not what you would call a "flattering" environment for a man on a non-bikini beach, if you get my drift, but in case I decide to come later this summer, do they allow "L" lenses there?

CoolToolGuy, THANK YOU!!! *phew* :)
Curtis N, don't you know what cool weather does to certain body parts on women?
(And I sure hope L lenses are legal in Sweden... or I'm looking at a long time in jail... although I'm more interested in the Swedish swim-trunk team.) :D

I sure hope L lenses are legal in Sweden... I meant are they allowed at the "non bikini" beach?
Or will I run into something like this?

finding a tripod ring for the magic drainpipe (80-200 2.8L) is pretty easy. finding a hood is harder and a replacement AF/MF switch is almost impossible. in any event, i'm glad you sourced the tripod ring :)

blackviolet, ouch! I actually got a hood (rubbery) and the AF/MF switch seem to be working.
I've emailed the Swedish company now and see if they can get it before July 9th (indoor wedding ceremony, might be a challenge). If not I've made sure a friend (who sold me the lens) can lend his tripod mount to me... he uses it with other lenses, but he's having outdoor weddings that weekend so we can sort it out if worse comes to worse).
And I've also emailed B&H and asked if they can ship the item to Canada (I'd pay with my credit card) and my in-laws could bring it with them to Sweden. They arrive on July 7th. :D
