Took my first shots with 1 alienbee B800 ... my other light wasnt working and a replacement should be here tomorrow.

They all look pretty underexposed. Where did you have your light placed as well? it looks like the position needs to change as it is not hitting their faces really.

Closest i could put the strobe was up top near the back of the spectator seating ... mid pool. One coach wasnt happy that there was flash allowed but the officials had no problems with it.

Dont know how the pool area is designed, but you may want to try putting it at one end or another, or bump the power up and bounce it.

ill give it a shot next time im there .... may be shooting some basketball tonight ... not sure yet.

If you're using a single strobe, you're going to need to be basically sitting underneath or right beside it. When you're way off to the side like this, the strobe really isn't helping you in lighting up what you're shooting.

I'd go for another strobe and get some more light. Will help over power ambient and make the pic pop.

i have a second AB B800 but it wasnt working properly ... (they sent me another) so hopfully ill have another chance to shoot swimming again with 2 strobes.

You may try putting it at one end and another. Thoug I don't know how the swimming pool ares is designed. You can also try to bump the power up and bounce it again.

They're concerned you're going to fire it when the swimmers are on the blocks. If they don't know you, it's understandable that they wouldn't be happy.
