Has anybody got a work flow on how to achieve a picture like this

I'd take the photo, crop it, turn the contrast down to achieve the slightly washed out background, then add the words and graphics with layers.

In a nutsheel...
Using a selection tool, select the frog. Then invert the selection so that the background is selected instead of the frog. Desaturate the color of the background so that it becomes B&W. There are several ways to desaturate an image so pick which ever one works for you. :)

white background.
Plane on a layer.
Text on the top layer(s).

Reduce opacity of plane layer to suit.

Haha, This is pretty funny.

Bakerman,

If you are asking about another photo besides the JetPhotos.net banner, we cannot see it.

but if there is a frog in the jet photos banner, I can't see it either.

I was wondering what was going on here. So, some of you guys are seeing something other than a frog, eh? Well, that explains what I thought was a weird workflow of Tim and Chris.

So, how does something like this happen. Or, are the privileged few the only ones who can see the frog? ;)

I see the jet banner.
And this is what I see. Does this show up as a jet banner for you, too?

AH! Better! Looks like a duplicated layer, froggy selected and masked and then desaturating the background, possible pumping up the background layer contrast although it's hard to tell w/o seeing the original.

The drugs worked, I see the frog now :D

As to how to do it, convert to black and white, then paint the frog with the history brush

LOL, Neil. With that "frog" question of yours (or should I say Frank's) earlier, I thought that maybe you (and Frank) were already on drugs. ;)

Now I se a frog too! :D

I'd probably use this technique: Make an adjustment layer with Mix channels to get b/w photo. Then paint with black on the layermask on the adjustment layer to bring out the colors.

BTW, did you have to do anything (other than the drugs, of course ;) ) to get the frog to come out or was it fixed at the source, do you think?

[Edit] Looks like Petra just answered my question. :)

Actually LICKING a frog should have the same effects as the drugs...and it's perfectly legal. Just don't expect anyone to kiss you for awhile.

The site that was linked to doesn't allow people to steal their bandwidth, so that have hotlink protection turned on. If you try and show one of their pictures in a web page hosted on another site it just shows the banner. To see the read photo you need to right click and choose something like "view image", then hit control-shift-reload to get the real picture.

Pacace's workflow makes a lot more sense now!

Hmmm... I was never a big fan of the history brush. It's too hard to 'customize' after you've used it.

When you can, it's always best to use layers and masks. There are so many ways to use layers to get various results.

There are several methods mentioned elsewhere in the forum for desaturating an image. Once you've done that (on a new layer) use a mask to either bring back the colour in the frog, or hide the colour from the rest.

Selection tools rarely work well... or at least produce nice results. They mostly have sharp edges that even feathering can't fix (since it'll blend incorrectly) so it's usually best to use the picture information to build selections.
Check the channels and see if you can load one of them as a selection. Or copy one of the channels and play with curves/levels to get a black and white image to be used as a selection (CTRL-click to load as selection).
You can mix the levels and curves with burn and dodge to increase contrast in tricky areas (hair).

You can also use the colour picker, but that usually doesn't work well unless the object or background is almost a solid colour.

Don't forget you can mix all of your selections together if certain areas require different steps to get the best results.

You can use the pen tool.... but it would take hours to get the lines in the correct shape and the results still wouldn't be as nice.

The easiest way is just to quick mask and flip between black and white painting.... but you won't get perfect seperation with that either.

:D Oh, THAT frog! I thought I WAS on drugs for a while! ;)
