Ok I will post the specs but I was wondering if this would be a good deal?!? I have Photoshop CS4 and I am looking for a laptop because I do most of my editing while watching TV  Best buy still has some of these in stock here for $599. What do you think? Should I run and go buy this laptop?

turion x2= crap^2

Avoid it at all costs. Even the SU9400 and other ultra-low voltage intel chips are just as powerful and give better battery life ratings.

If you're going cheap-laptop route, don't settle for less than a 2gh core 2 duo unless you know you need something different (like SU chips when you don't edit photos/video and sacrifice power for mobility)

Thanks for the quick reply. Hmm.. what about this one?

I have been hearing good things about Asus. Not sure about the processor though, but I assume it is better than the AMD??

Again, it's an SU processor (see above post)

The Vt version (this one you linked to is Ag) is 33% faster thanks to overclocking, but even so it's not as good as a 2gh core 2 duo (though it will run photoshop cs3 and LR2 just fine... though very slowly)

EDIT: And personally, between the HP dv6 and asus UL50Ag, i'de go with the UL50, it's sexy ;)

Is there one you recommend? In that price range? I found this one and its not a SU processor not sure if this one would be any faster... What do you think?

2.26gh core 2 duo sounds good for processing. It's the same specs as a MB/MBP13", so plenty fast unless you are editing 16MP+ images

Does it have to be an HP? I prefer Toshiba laptops. Here is one with similar specs but a 16" screen.

hmm.. Now you have me thinking!! I will need to go to best buy to see the Sony, I know I didnt like that the touch pad on the new ones werent smooth. I was thinking Toshiba but why are the ratings lower than that of the HP?

There are only 7 reviews on the Toshiba with one bad one. That will drag the ratings down.

Just take a look at each of them when you go down there. Talk to the Geek Squad guys to see which one they work on more and stay clear.

Well after all the research I ended up getting a MacBook Pro with the 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3. This thing is BLAZING fast!!

Just put windows 7 on that and it'll be that much better....

But if you had $1k+ to spend, why the hell did you look at $600 (non-apple) laptops? For $1k you could have gotten an i7 system, and that would run circles around the MBP without even using turboboost...

Well I was debating and I did look at the i7 systems and well... I guess I was just sold on the mac operating system and that I can run windows on it as well... We will see if it was a good purchase but so far it is great.

Just do remember that you bought into technology that started being replaced three months ago, and will be no longer used (except for $500-800 computers) within three months (i5 and i3 mobile are already pretty much set for Jan/Feb release and have already been demo'ed at a few places). MBP are expected to be replaced possibly Feb, and would likely include these new chips (with either better performance or better battery life as well, at the same price per part as current core 2 duo chips).

It isn't something against the MB/MBP at all, simply that at this time there is absolutely no reason to go with a core 2 duo laptop (unless it's a CULV and you need portability and battery life)

Well considering I upgraded from a 800mhz processor I think this laptop will do all I need plus more. I understand the upgrades and all but I dont think I will see a difference for what I want to do. Every 6 months there are "old" technology so on my next upgrade (it will be a long time) I will look at what "new" technology is out. Thanks for all the input though.

Actually not true, new/old tech (processor wise at least) is on a 3-5 year cycle. pentium 4 lasted until mid 2006 (from 2001/2002 until early 2007 they were on sale, very last remnants stopped selling in 2008, but they weren't really for consumers), core 2 was mid 2006 to early 2010 (well, it really overlaps with i7 more than any other processor technology before, low end systems may keep using them until mid/late 2011 unless core 2 and i3 prices are the same). Laptop wise you usually see a much faster turnaround between the time that the full line (in this case i3/i5 mobile) comes out and the time 90%+ of computers come in those chips. Within 6 months of core 2 duo being available, all computers on the market had replaced core/centrino duo chips with core 2 duo, even though the first systems were the high end ones.

You mistake processor speed with technology, and yes, within 3mo of purchasing a computer, a new version with a faster processor will be out, but the technology is mainly the same (core 2 today now include a few more instructions than the old ones did, but not like any software actually takes advantage of it yet anyway).

But yes, upgrading from a 800mh p3 or powerpc 3/4 will be a huge increase in speed regardless.
