Hey everybody! I have been looking through the site and love the work posted here. I have a new T1i and a kit lens. I am so green at photography but am enjoying my new hobby so much. This is my first time posting on the site and thought that I could learn from your constructive criticism. I took this photo at a spot where I live. Thought the leaves and fog was a great place to start. Any thoughts to improve would be greatly appreciated. Any ideas what could be done to improve it in PP?

I'm new to photo myself, this site helps a lot. I like the photo, very interesting, only thing I would say is the colors (ground and trees) should pop a little more. If you're looking for a great starting book I just finished "Understanding Exposure" by Bryan Peterson. It has taken me all of a week to blow through and has not only painted a vivid understanding of how shutter speed, aperture, and ISO form a photograph, but it has inspired me to get out and practice more than I was. There is a drastic difference between my shots before the book and after. But, this is not a book review site, its just a suggestion - and again, I like the photo!

for PP....I'd like to see a b&w of this picture. Maybe one with some increased contrast.
I've been shooting for almost 2 years now and I'm still learning. Another thing I would suggest is to get down sometimes. kneel down and take the pic. It's a whole new world under 3ft and over 7ft ;)

I took the liberty of tweaking it just a tad with some presence and contrast adjustments in LR. Nice shot!

Very nice shot with a number of possibilities. Here's one (cropped to 8X10). The only processing was a levels adjustment to set the black point higher and a curves adjustment to increase contrast.

And here's another, emphasizing the receding fence and rows of trees more.

I want to thank everyone for your input on this photo. That's what I love about this site!! I know its a starter and I have a lot to learn. I cannot count times I have seen someone recommending the book understanding exposure. I obviously have to get it. The tweaks you have made really make a difference. I tried the B&W and it gives it a whole different feel. I like the options. It was interesting to see the crops. I was actually playing with different crops just before i checked in here again. Thanks again and looking forward to seeing more great shots.

Thanks, ThoughMyEyes. LightRoom is quite the tool to have! Of course, you have to start with a good photo and this one is! :)

There's a fine line with photos featuring fog/mist as it's so hard to capture the wisps and low contrast created by this type of weather. If I had to chose a favourite edit, I'd go for stva's second crop edit which really tightens up the composition as there's now a leading path but yet it still retains the lovely mist effects. Credit for the original capture.

I really like the original and would try the various suggestions made here. I agree with the point made about Scottdog's edit though.

I thought the large brach at the top was really heavy, so cropped accordingly?Tonal adjustment.Would be so nice if Mother Nature had snap off boughs;)
Looks like a beautiful setting, I would take more!:D

Thanks for the CC.
I know what your talking about with the fog/mist and contrast. It was quite an eye opener when i started shooting! Flo good call on your edit. Looks much better. Here's one from the low angle like suggested. I know the quality sucks. I will work on getting the proper settings. I really like Scottdog's edit as well. I don't have any PP experience. I was thinking that this setting reminded me of a Sleepy hollow feel. I dont know if this is the right forum. But, If someone wants to take a shot at trying to create that atmosphere I would love see what could be done. I would'nt know where to start.
Again, thanks for the input It all helps the learning curve.

Its a great spot.just take lots of photos from all different perspectives..you will be able to see what you like in composition before you click, look for heavy items in the way, wayward boughs, anything that would detract from your composition.

The low angle shot looks good. Nice spot for shooting and experimenting.
