Few new shot from new camera

I just recieved my new 350D yesterday and I took some pictures of my sister. This is my first post. I used a 50mm f/1.8 II. The images came out a little soft at f1.8 so next time I'll bump it up a few notches. Please give me your feedback on the pictures. Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum Neo and congrats on the new camera.
The first shot, I wouldn't have shot a portrait with nothing relevant in the backround in landscape, shoot it portrait.
The 2nd shot has too much headroom.
Than again thats just my opinion, keep experimenting for what looks good to you and what you like.
Keep practicing your sister makes a good model.

First shot too bright and I agree, should be portrait. Second looks OOF. Having seen some of the other posts from that 50 mm I know it can be much sharper. In both shots she appears to be looking up at you and it doesn't work for me.

Pretty model. Great eyes and hair.
