I was out yesterday w/my 400 5.6L and was really blessed to get these 2 shots. The heron didn't see me until the last minute. I don't know who was frightened most... it because of me or me... afraid I wouldn't get the shot:lol:

Reigh & CDS,
Thanks for the 'look/see' and the commments. I'm glad that this photo op presented itself yesterday. I was out with the 400 lens for the purpose of convincing myself that it was a good 'copy'. I feel good about it after opening those raw images for the first time. :D  :D

Leorooster,
Appreciate your comment. I go back and forth between #1 & #2. I like the dynamic of what's happening in #1, I guess because I was there and saw him putting on the brakes :). But I really like #2 also... maybe because of the composition. There wasn't but 4 secs in between these two captures.

Wow!!! great shots!! That lens must be a lot of fun. Blue Herons are one of my favorite birds.

Thanks Nat. They are one of mine also... though I would love to be able to find some raptors, particularly hawks. Eagles, in my part of the country, are few and far between (from what I gather). I've never seen one in the wild.

Both shots are great - #1 is fabulous! I love all the detail on the part that's usually hidden.

I like 1 and 2 the best, the water colour gives them a Lift. when you are finished with lens, I will send My address

WOW, Fantastic captures, and fast reflexes as well, for both of you. great shots.

Felix & Airdale, Thanks for the encouragement :) and the comments!

Tupe, I agree. Most of the shots I've seen are with the GBH in normal "flight pattern" or standing... looking all graceful and such . But #1, well ain't nothin graceful about 'back-peddling'. (tee hee)
I also know what you mean about being able to see underneath the wings and a point of view different than the 'norm'.
Thanks for looking and your comments.

Cyber...
Too cool! I see what you meant earlier about the deja vu... Oct 2003! Many feathers, mine as well as the birds:eek:, have fallen in the water since then. Hey, mine were a whole lot closer than the ones you captured. I would like to have the pics you took in my picure folder too!

Thanks for the post!

Beeclose... OK, I'll start packing this lens up tonight and ship it off just as soon as I get your address, mmmm... :-P yeah right:!:

I was tickled how the water reflected the sky so well. Our water, in this lake, is not so blue and clear as the picture intimates. But is was a beautiful clear sunny day. Thanks for your comment

Thanks Sheldon... and as I said in the RWB post, my shoulders are really healthy and your probably tired of wagging that OLD 300 f2.8 around. ;)
