Man i am getting annoyed.. I didn't want to but a rubberband arround them, but If i turn something off one more time, my head will explode..

Yesterday at an engagement shoot, IS was turned off.. The lens is still relatively new too me so I just assumed it was still in the ON position.. anyway I was shooting around 1/250 and 1/180 I was so sure that I was safe, I was not even trying to keep the camera halfway still (shooting PJ style from a distance as they were walking along the beach) I still was ok on a LOT of them, but missed a few KILLER shots that would have been DEAD ON!!

Iknow Iknow I should have known that IS was off by looking through the viewfinder, but the IS on this lens is much more subtle than I have experienced in others, and I was caught up in the moment of shooting.. Adrenaline does wonders for me in forgetting things (dumb me)

On the bright side, it was an engagement shoot, and it wasnt like blew "the-kiss". And because I had this happen, I will.. NEVER fall prey to it again

THIS LENS NEEDS A LOCK OR A COVER FOR THE SWITCHES.

[/rant]

Here are some of the ones that were ok (IMO image quality is not super because i exported them from picasa real quick to share)

They are terrible on that lens.. and what's really weird is that the 100-400mm,.. an EARLIER lens design.. had it absolutely RIGHT! I never have this problem with the 100-400mm.. (or at least so rarely it has never bothered me) where-as on the 70-200mm you literally can not put it down and pick it up again without one or more of the switches being bumped!

Have you tried hot melt glue ;)

I have only had my 70-200 for a short time, but I find that I can hear the IS working. I have have knocked off the AF/MF a few times and wondered what has gone wrong with my camera, and yes I agree I have never had any problems with the 100-400.

Wow I was just about the start the same topic earlier this week. I shot a triathlong last weekend, and this happened to me like 10 times.

I was starting to think the IS button swtiches to off by itself. If you find a solution to the problem please let me know.

Wondeful images although I am sure it is the models you shoot! Love the Lance Armstrong "fix" ... I will likely try that. Thanks for sharing.

That's why pilots have pre-flight check lists. Take camera out of bag and check:

Battery level
ISO setting
Metering mode
AF mode and drive mode, lens AF/MF/IS
Lens IS buttons
Set the exposure compensation to zero
Set WB on auto or appropriate for JPG. Auto if RAW
Set Av (Aperture priority), Tv, or Manual (not idiot modes)
Set camera “Parameters” if shooting JPGs.

Start adrenaline engine and fly.

but then with digital you're buggered if your battery is flat before take off and you're sitting out in the middle of the tarmac...
always pack a spare!

Even some of us airplane drivers forget to pick up the checklist:rolleyes:

I order my 70-200IS today and will keep your fix in mind.

Cheers,

Lynn

Great solution.

www.livestrong.com or any nike store. They cost a buck each and the money goes towards cancer research (wow I sound liek a brokenrecord). I wonder if i can get them around my 300 f4.

Just went to wal mart and found that they have tonz of the black bands. They are for the graduating class of 2005. The other side has no writing on it if you didn't want to have the graduating class thing on your lens.
