I've been shooting and saving in the highest quality jpeg only, no raw. It gives me more shots per card, saves me a few steps and speeds up production. Does anyone have any horror stories or regrets from shooting in jpeg format only? Most of my prints sold are 11x14 or smaller. The quality of the images and prints, in jpeg seems fine. I've tried shooting and processing in the raw format but I can't see much difference than with the jpeg.

Also, Is a 2nd battery reccommended for the Mark2. Has anyone run out of battery during a 1 day shoot? If so are there any 2nd party vendors or should I stick with a Canon battery?

Thanks, Airpix

There are lots of threads on this topic, you might gain some insights with a search, it can depend on what and where you're shooting. If the light is contrasty, there is a higher change the exposure won't be right, and this is much easier to fix with RAW. Also the ability to set the white balance on the computer can save some shots, or at least save significant tweaking time in PS.

RAW comes into it's own when you get the exposure wrong, or want to adjust white ballance later. I've had shots that were WAY too dark, for reasons including a flash that wasn't cycled in time, with RAW EC+3 I managed to rescue the shot. I only shoot RAW for important shoots, for quick and dirty stuff I shoot JPG.

No flame,.

...but I just can't imagine getting a camera of that quality,. at that price,. a "No Compromises" camera like the 1Ds... and then tossing out 1/3rd of all the color information and compressing the image data on my files before they even leave the camera... :(

To me this just makes no sense.. CF cards are cheap,. and so is hard disk space and blank DVDs.. where as the tools you have purchased to make superior quality images are not.. by a long stretch.

Why cripple it's potential with a setting that is as easy to change as pressing two buttons?

The third party batts for the "1" series are junk.. and you can shoot easily 1200 pics on one charge.. I'd stick with Canon.
