Transporting strobes + accessories

Hey guys,

So I have purchased a alienbee kit. 2 strobes..stands and a few modifiers.. Anyways, I'm trying to figure out what the best way is to transport them via airplane. Yes pelican cases are good, but not when they're 40 pounds before you have any gear in them, and need to bring them on a plane... I have a smaller pelican for some of my cameras + glass, but I'm guessing a bigger one will be over the limit for flying..

What do you suggest for traveling with strobes?

Let me add, the gear is going to be checked in, I can't carry all of my stuff onboard.

Oh, alright. So you're gonna check in a couple of strobes aaaand you're not gonna get a Pelican? Pretty risky, no? I was reading your original post and it seemed like you were gonna take them on board as a carry on.

Step One- Buy a pelican case

Step Two- Ship vis UPS/Fed Ex (insured)

or

you could bring a an assistant and make them carry on the strobes.


Either way I never check gear that I need for a shoot unless I'm positive it can be quickly replaced at the destination. (unlikely unless your shooting in B&H's parking lot)

That might work for the shipping part..but my assistant can't carry them on, there's a weight limit for carry-ons

I would usually only carry on the actual strobes, then maybe ship just the stands/modifiers? I often ship a tripod to the hotel we'll be staying at ahead of time I'm sure stands would be no different, just call the hotel to check first and let them know when you'll be arriving. Only hotels I've had issues with were the Embassy Suites in DC(didn't want to sign for the package) and the Bellagio in Las Vegas(misplaced package but was found inside 1 hour).
