LOL! Thanks for looking guys.

They are the most obedient goats i've ever seen. They didn't move a step if the dogs didn't make any move. Those two were like Godfathers.

Hey, there you go cfc!
Nice pic!
I have a friend that runs about 700 head of Spanish goats on grazing projects. He rents them to do noxious weed control on rough terrain or where they don't want to spray.
The goats in your picture are a breed called Boer goats.

Also, the dogs are guardians for the goats. They help protect them from predators (coyotes, etc.). I can't tell from the pic exactly what breed they are-- We use a lot of Marremmas or Great Pyrenees dogs here in the PNW.
Thanks for sharing the shot!

Thanks Bonnie.
Boer, cool name. They sure looked well trained and smart. ;) They outnumbered the dogs but it seemed they understood the dogs were there to protect them. But the dogs were smarter. They hid under the shade to avoid the heat while the goats were herded to the middle of the road. http://www.initial-d.com/forums/images/smilies/sweat.gif

Here's a better look of the dogs.

We had boer goats in the Texas Hill Country. Great lawn mowers. Get a bucket of corn and its like you have a cordless lawn mower.

Cheers,

Lynn

The dogs look like Maremmas, I think-a little hard to tell. They are very docile and gentle dogs --unless there is a threat and then they are formidible. My friend's dogs work in pairs--one stays with the sheep while the other circles the perimeter of their property. They have not lost any livestock to predators since they installed the dogs.

The dogs are raised and live with the sheep. They killed a bear two years ago that
made the mistake of coming into the field. But are gentle with our working dogs and people.
Here is shot of one--his name is Mario (they are an Italian breed)
Coyotes beware! This is one big dog!!

I was alittle embarassed and didn't know what to do when they all looked at me. I didn't have any corn or food for them.

Lynn, that's the cheapest lawn mover i've ever seen.

Very nice shot. I can remember having goats on the farm where I grew up. They didn't look much like these ones though.

I live in the suburbs of Seattle.
I do have sheep--sometime as many as thirty head. I was thinking one time that I should start an upscale lawn mowing business for those that want all organic and enviornental friendly lawn care. I could just haul the sheep around and use portable electric fencing to contain them. Charge big bucks!!!

We used to keep about 250 for our Ag exempt. There was never a dull time when there were about 50/75 little kids running around! They are also great for letting you know when it was about to rain or a storm was coming.

Take care,

Lynn
