I was out just putzing about shooting a GBH. It was a very overcast day so the lighting was not very good. There were a couple of RWB's that took exception the Heron's presence and were buzzing it on a regular basis. I was lucky to get this shot and even though the lighting was not good I still like it. It was taken on the 1DMKII. I was using the 300 f2.8 L IS with the 2.0 and 1.4 teleconverters stacked. I think this works out to somewhere around a 900mm focal length. I was also using the better beamer on the flash and the subjects were around 100 feet away (give or take). Exposure was 1/1000th at f8 at ISO 400.

The iso 400 worked well, good shot, would like to see more if you have them.

They're brave little buggers... nice shot.

BTW - isn't that a girl's lens? ;-)

I'm not so sure that shoulder of yours could stand the weight of it.;)

Sheldon, good detail on the GBH considering the amount of glass stacked. The "2.8" helped considerably I'm sure. The picture definitely depicts the intent and displeasure of the RWB! The heron doesn't seemed phased. Oh yeah, nothing wrong with my shoulder!
Thanks for sharing.

Awesome shot, Sheldon. You've capture two of my favorite birds (I think I have about a dozen birds on my "favorite birds" list ;) ) in one shot. How cool is that?!?!

Great photo, Sheldon!

Must be something about these little birds when it comes to big birds in their
territory. One was dogging this hawk in our neighborhood:

Awesome shot, Sheldon!
Those RWB's can be vicious. I've seen them attach other birds in the sky and had one come after me when I wandered close to a nest. Beautiful birds, though.

Fantastic catch, I've never seen anything like that. Who'd have thought a RWB would dive bomb a Heron.

Excellent Shot! The RWB are agressive, I've got shots of one attacking a family of geese!
