I know there are a lot of birders out there. What is this guy?

Yellow-crowned night heron, Nyctanassa violacea. Rare visitor to the Southeastern US.

When I first glanced at your photo, I immediately thought "black-crowned night heron," because that is what we have on the West Coast. But then I looked at the detail of the head, and this one was different. I think those long breeding plumes make them look special.
