Heres my dilemma, I work at bestbuy, and tomorrow is my last day, I'm wondering should I buy my Digital Rebel XT from there? It'll run me $906+tax for the camer and kit lens....of course I can find it cheaper online, but theres shipping charges, and my main concern is the warranty. BestBuy offers the 4yr warranty with their camera, would it be worth it to get one? I know you can get your battery replaced pretty much whenever, but is it worth paying the $100 or so more than online prices? I will definatley buy accessories, I am thinking the 1gb Ultra II card, is that any good? Thanks guys.

Hope you receive good advice!
Personally, I would purchase where I can pick up and return if any problems hopefully for refund, exchange at same day (it will just cost you gas money). But I'm not a retailer nor have current retail experience. What has been your experience with customer service with Bestbuy?
By the way I purchased my 300d at BH photo on 34th St.
All the best on your purchase!

Agree. Especially if you used to work there and left with no bad sentiments, despite the normal customer treatment that you are entitled to, you may get something better directly from the store.

Might as well get it from BB especially if you're in a hurry to go out shooting. I personally don't buy the extended warranties so I wouldn't in your case. The Sandisk Ultra II's have worked perfectly for me. I recommend them highly. Good luck

My gf gave me my rebel for my birthday, but she got it from Comp USA. We have a friend that works there, and I guess they give more of a discount than Best Buy does to their employees. That being said, you still would be getting a good deal, and a 4 year warranty would be awesome. I know that if they cant fix it, they will automatically give you another one, or one of the same value, so 4 years from now, if a new one comes out, and yours is doesnt work somehow, you will get a new camera if you know what I mean.

I'm not sure what state you're from, but you can save around $100 from bhphoto.com if you're not from NY since outside residents don't pay sale tax. bhphoto has the kit for around 889.95 + (16.25 3-day s/h to Seattle) = 905.25 (including shipping). Plus, you'll be able to find other great accessories reasonably priced.

If a problem occurs it sucks to wait a week or more to get an exchange or return an item back to those online stores. For it's worth buying online since sale tax is almost 9% in our state. It can really add up at when you're spending total is of over 1000 bucks. The savings can buy me the 50mm f1.8 lens and more.

Extended warranty is offered by Mack Camera Store in NJ which B&H sells. http://www.mackcam.com
This is not by B&H.:)

I paid $810 for the kit from Dell, but it took over a month to get it (and I paid for express shipping). Also I made a second order for a memory card which I never got and, after MUCH hastle, I got refunded for.

Ok, so I bought it today, got the Rebel XT kit, lens, 4yr warrantee, and a 1gb Ultra II card for $1127. The good thing about bestbuys warranty is that you get free replacement batteries whenever, yay :)! So far I've been just fooling around with the camera.....anyone know how to turn the flash off in macro mode? thanks!

I am not sure you can do it. But, you can go to P (Program) mode and shoot. If focussing is a problem, move the lens to Manual and do manual focussing. Also, you may try AV mode, where you set the Aperture for appropriate DOF
Enjoy the new camera
BTW, you can always use the DOF Preview.

Haha, thank you :)! As far as posting in the photo section, well I SUCK with this camera :(!! I've been fooling around the last 2 days with this thing and I can't get any good shots, mainly because I don't know how to use any of the features and Auto mode isn't that great. I had a Canon S30 before this but I used that in auto mainly too, anyone have any tips/tricks or know of any tutorials which will teach me to use this better? Thanks!

Wasiq, I've had my XT for four months and the learning curve can be steep for a first time SLR user. (It was for me.) I've never found any good learning aids, as yet. I'd suggest you do what most of us probably did, read the manual and experiment. It worked for me and I now love my XT and seldom use anything else.
Once you learn what the features are you'll be fine. Just keep reading and taking pictures.
