Beautiful flowerswith gorgeous colour but it looks to me as if the focus point is on the leaf behind the flower.

ok....that makes sense. I used the AF mode, so should I be using manual focus when taking a photo like this? Or how should I set up my AF mode to use it better?

I'm only learning myself but think you'll have more luck if you use Manual focus. The only other way if you wnat to use AF is to try to focus several times but maybe it will still focus on the leaves. I noticed when I was taking photos of yellow flowers it was very difficult to get precise focus but on a similar red flower in the same situation it was easy using AF. Hope this helps. They are still beautiful photos.

Great start! Keep at it! In the 2ns one, the light draws my eyes to the blossom on the right, but it's the other one that's in focus. Have you seen this?

Thanks guys for the comments. Next time I'll be a bit more patient and think about the WHOLE picture instead of how pretty the flower is. There's just sooooo much to remember. Why oh why did I ever give up cabaret.....lol.
