Should I always do a refresh i.e full dicharge and recharge when recharging the battey or only for the first few charges.
Or is it a case of every now and then do a refresh. :?

Either I dumped any battery info along with the packaging when the camera arrived or no info on the battery was included.

Sorry if it's a dumb question.

Hi Cameron

Being a bit of a hoarder, I've still got my instructions. They seem to indicate that it should be done each time.:)

Refresh about once a month or every 4th time the battery discharges in the camera. There is absolutely no need to do it more than that.

I've read refresh once a month from pro users, I'd imagine for a "prosumer" that means once every few months. No need to do it every time you recharge.

I've "refreshed" three time in 15 months...

I get about 1400 shots per charge.. at least.

every refresh is a full charge and discharge cycle... which your batts have a finite number of before failure.

Therefore if you wereto refresh every time you recharge.. you would be cutting the total life of your battery in half. (total number of recharge cycles)

Have any of you actually reached end of life on one of these batteries for the 1 series yet? If so how long did it take in shot and or years?

Cheers,

According to knowledgeable sources, the battery should go through a refresh cycle (discharge/charge) 3 time when new and then refreshed every 10-12 charges after that.

They die very gradually... on the 1D it was more noticeable becuase the camera was a pig... maybe 450 shots on a brand new battery.. I had one battery that you could get maybe 25 -30 shots on it by the end...

But that same battery would give the MkII about 150 shots...
My guess is that they should be recycled or discarded long beofre it gets that bad... like maybe such a low charge could actually be bad for the camera?

My A80 has current detection in it that shuts the camera down if the batteries get to low, Im sure if there was any chance of low current damaging a 1 series canon would have fitted the same current detection :)

(its all scary in this forum, lots of big lenses....... :o )
