I am no spring chicken, and I have plenty of years participating in on-line discussion forums,

that being said,I was told this site was friendly to new people,

but seeing reactions to the few posts I have made here,

there have been a couple replies,

but I do not feel welcome here,

what does it take to be talked to here ?

do I have to be a recognized pro photographer ?

what dues have to be paid here ?

am I not good enough ?

I have to say,all I feel is a cold shoulder here, and feel very uncomfortable posting here,it's like being ignored,

too bad :(

That surprised me. I've been a member half a year and have had plenty of feedback, mostly positive.

Sure, once in a while a photography snob will bark at me, but I just ignore it.

Post some links to your threads.

Don't take no reply to mean you're being ignored. Lots of people just don't comment either because they feel insecure about their opinions, because they only feel comfortable responding to people they "know" or because they just don't choose to post a "Nice Shot" when they don't feel they have any more than that to say. If you're posting in the tech sections, a lack of response may mean that you've posted a really esoteric question and the "right" people haven't seen it yet. But be patient. Looking at your history, it looks like you've gotten responses to at least several threads.

I took a quick look, it appears many of the regulars have responded to your questions. I'm no spring chicken either and many of my posts get little more than a couple of kind remarks. If I kick in a reply in a thread someone else started, I may get no direct replies at all. Doesn't bother me, I still keep putting my 2 cents in whenever I feel like it--accompanied by images I think illustrate my point.

There are a few --hmmm-- sharp-tongued members who make sarcastic comments, mostly young whipper-snappers (remember that phrase?). But surely you or I can easy respond with a "Vas you dere, Cholie?" (Or are you too young to remember that vaudeville routine that they used on the Milton Berle show?)

Let's see....
You started a thread called my wife and dog in the gold fields....
"e:( " is all that remains.
You commented on another thread
"hfdg"

Posts like that aren't going to be met with any overwhelming response. Yes, we have a substantial troll population here....it grows as the forum grows....but there are also tons of very helpful people here too....far more helpful folks than idjits. Take some time to read around a bit....it shouldn't take long to see who the good folks are and who the fools are.

Also take some time to get acquainted and you will find this is a pretty good place to garner information and ideas.

Hi tattooDan!

At the crumbly old age of 52, I must be one of the more ancient ones. :D I've been here since March 6 of this year. It is a heavily trafficked forum. Translated, it's extremely difficult to keep track and keep up with the forum. There are over 3/4 of a million threads and over 9 million posts. It's impossible to keep up. I have no idea how many posts are made each day, but I'd guess it's well into four figures. I don't have the time to read everything - and still eat, and function with a family, and work to pay the bills for the computers and network access.

I've been on lots of forums, and was even a founder and admin on one. This has to be one of the busiest of which I've been a member, and one of the best run forums I've seen. It's like a big city however. You're not going to be noticed unless you post a lot and participate in others' threads in addition to starting your own. I saw your thread on Zephyr. You had good interaction from others! TheHoff responded to you. I've seen him around a lot. Woolburr mentioned in this thread there's a substantial troll population here. I'm surprised, as I've really seen little troll activity. Yes there's some but not much.

I've posted photos in sticky threads and have gotten no response. I've started some of my own threads and have gotten anything from very limited responses to a considerable number of them. Hmmm... I seem to recall one thread I started where I receive No Responses At All. Actually there are two of them! Maybe I should leave.

I'm no pro at all. Look at my equipment list - an XSi, a G9, and - God forbid, given this is a Canon forum - a Sony pocket point and shoot. My first serious camera was a Pentax K1000 (my own promotion here for redemption, given it was a fully manual film SLR). So what? I look at some of the amazing work from others in this place. I post to others' threads. I start some of my own threads. I've come to know some of the folks around here. Hopefully some have come to know me. (Hopefully I've even been a good citizen around these here parts.) I could say lots of other things, but the best I can come up with at this point is:

Welcome tattooDan.
