Hello,

I just purchased a Hoya Super HMC Pro 1 UV filter off Ebay (the one in the black/gold box, NOT the new digital blue box ones). I just received it and to me, it looks genuine. The first thing I noticed was how it looked as if there was no glass in it (which I think is good since it is not seeming to reflect the light and just absorb it....otherwise I would have seen the glass right away right??? I purchased this from a USA seller, not overseas......I think it is genuine, but this site I found worries me a bit....maybe those of you who have this filter and box and you know for a fact that it is genuine, can help me???

http://forum.lowyat.net/topic/682552/+20

My box has the white "JAPAN" logo at the top (circled number 1 in this person's demonstration), but my box does NOT have circle number 2 (the extra seral numbers on the top of the barcode).......my font on the actual filter seems to look like the genuine one pictured on bottom....not the bolded white font on the top........and mine just says JAPAN...not Made In Japan.........

Also, is the filter itself supposed to have a serial number on it somewhere? I don't see one???

Like I said, I think it is genuine....but this site kinda scares me that it could be a fake.....Help please???

My genuine Hoya SHMC boxes say 'Made by Tokina CO, Ltd" on the back at the bottom, and no mention of country of origin. The filter ring says "Hoya HMC SUPER 77mm UV(0) JAPAN", and nothing else.

Does your box have any serial numbers on the top of the barcode as demonstrated in the link I provided? Or do you just see one set of numbers on the bottom of the Barcode?

No serial numbers. The UPC label itself has UPC numbers, which are the same on any filter, as it is not a serial number of a single unit.

Yes, but do you only have one set of UPC numbers on the bottom of the barcode....or two sets of UPC numbers on the bottom and top of the barcode?

The UPC bar code has a UPC number (singular) below the bar code

All of the recent "is my filter genuine or fake" threads have seemed to make people genuinely paranoid...

I'm not sure if it's a good way of telling if the filter is genuine but the filter ring on mine feels like its made of ceramic.
