Coming from Australia and really have no idea about what it would be like living where it snows, pictures like this amaze me..Does it take much for the garden to come back after being under so much snow?

Nature is resilient. The winters here are neither long nor severe, usually with several warm-ups during its course. Normally we get about 30” of snow during the season, it’s just unusual to get over half of it in one morning.
