Wonderful image :D
I like the matching blue on her dress and on the award she was presented.
Was she deaf before she started to play percussion or was it a resulting malady?

Yeah, of course, but you still want the photo to tell as much of the story as you can. Idealy, the award more in view would make it a better photo. Obiviously part of it is on her at what angle she holds it.

The award more in picture would make it simply just that- an award shot .
The story was in the article written to go with the picture, which was about her life and difficulties faced, the award was purely incidental

As long as her reaction is the same, it still has the feel good story/moment, you captured.
