Just wondering if anybody has used one of these before, the reviews look good, but would just like to get more input. Is the Canon version worth the extra money? Or can I cut a corner and still be safe with this?:

Do you mean inset? If so, it is showing the metal threads on the flash shoe to attach to brackets.

Yeah thats what I meant haha sorry. So would it be possible for me to attatch the flash to the top of the camera as usual even with the sync cord on? (Hope that makes sense..lol)

nope. you attach the flash on the other end of the ettl cord either handheld or attach it on a bracket.

Hmm, im so confused, I dont get the purpose of the inset piece then lol :/ or is it so you can attatch it to a light stand?

One end goes on top of a bracket(if using one) where you mount the flash and the other end goes on the camera's hot shoe mount.

I bought that same Opteka from Amazon recently. Well built and works like a charm.
You don't need to spend more.

I have the Flashzebra. Excellent. As I recall, about the same price.

I must add that I did a very dumb manipulation today; as a result, my 5D MK II fell from the tripod and was stopped before hitting the floor only by the Opteka off camera flash cord - and I felt real stupid while the camera was dangling at the end of the cord, a few inches from the floor.
Relieved that the camera was unscratched, I thought that the cord would be fried, some contacts or inner wires broken under the brutal shock: actually, it still works perfectly and I could shoot 30 or 40 pics afterwards with no problem at all.
Then I guess we can say that there is no quality problem with that gear.

Thank you all for the inputs! :D
I ended up going with the Opteka, and Gerard, with a story like that I'm glad I did!

I had an opteka one and it failed on me the first time I used it but reading other reviews it sounds like I was just unlucky
