Howdy All,

Just wanted to ask those of you whom use either the Tamron 90mm or the Sigma 105mm Macro what sort of working distance you get from the front of the lens to subject . At a 1:1 ratio is the distance from lens to subject greater than with the 50mm versions. I mean noticeably so in use ?

I have only done Close up pics with a P&S camera so far & find it difficult with alot of insects as it only gives a working distance of about 5cm.

Would these lenses be any good for portraiture work or are zooms/larger primes better suited.

Cheers
Mitcon

I have the tamron and almost made the mistake of selling it. I am bias toward the tamron sp90. 6 year warranty, included hood and pouch make it a hard value to beat. The pros I hang with at the local shop say that its the sharpest macro out here in its class.

minimum focus is 11.4 inches from your victim.

As far as portrait work, YES its is very good. Being a prime lens it lens itself to great work in this area. The tamron has a focus limiting switch and makes this work really easy. I find zooms easier for portrait work as you can frame your subject easier with the zoom but they tend to be not as fast AV wise and not as sharp in all generalities.

Welcome to POTN!!!

Here is a little eye candy for ya. Yes i do post this pic when ever this subject shows up!! ;)
