Hi,
I have agreed to shoot some marx figures and he wants a higher definition of the features than in this image.
any ideas on lighting and settings of the 300D to get a better contrast of the facial features would be helpful.

Wow! That's a large photo. (Probably want to resize it to meet forum rules, and fit on our screens better... hint hint).
The lighting looks ok to me (might want a bit more lighting from the side), but the larger problem is the very shallow DOF you have. The arm on the left is in focus, but the one on the right is totally out of focus. Trying a bit higher f-stop will get more in focus and help get you a more detailed shot. I can't read the EXIF on my current computer, so I have no idea what it was shot at, but it looks like it was wide open.
What type of lighting are you using?
BTW, Welcome to POTN!

Welcome John to POTN, you will surely like your time here!
You noticed that I had to change your embedded image into a link, as it exceeds the limits we have for the photos in POTN. Please read the Image Posting Rules (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=194511) for details.
I also moved this thread to Still Life, B&W and Experimental forum - you will get more responses there that in EOS tech forum.
