Having seen many good bird pictures at feeders taken with the Olympus super zooms, I have bought an SP 560 UZ, (18X), have now ordered the TCON 17 with the CLA 10 tube. If you can share your experience with these I'll sure appreciate it!:)

Hi heez,

We shoot with Canon Sx-IS cams and Sony 1.7x TCs, but I suspect these kits are very similar to the Oly rig you're using. Compared with dSLRs and comparably long glass, any such P&S camera setup will be slow to focus, have limited light gathering, significantly greater noise, less resolving power, and slow restricted shutter speeds.

That said, pretty decent bird photos can still be captured with these small cameras.
Best advice I can give is:
Get close to your birds, and work at arranging setups near your feeders with decent lighting and pleasant backgrounds. Most of all, take a LOT of shots and learn everything you can about your camera's controls. Getting the best from any camera takes practice, and nothing will improve your photos more.

Hope this helps,

Kenn

I use a sony 1.7 on my S5 and it was a great improvement, I never noticed any image degradation, or loss of light like on the DSLRs
