Couple first shots...

These are a couple of shots I took while hiking. I'm fairly new to all this,it's very overwhelming and I'm trying to take it all in. Would really like to get some feedback, it's very appreciated :)

Neither look really sharp for some reason. I really like the composition (most people would take this one in landscape view) and the colors in it. The second photo i couldn't really care for, it probably would benefit from some pp (stronger contrast and maybe add some vignetting to bring out the subject).

I do like the first one but I think it would really hit the mark if the entire leaf in the foreground was in focus....nice composition though.

Actually, my photos being not being sharp is something I've noticed quite often and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. They look fine to me when I review them on my camera then when I put them on my computer I'm dissappointed. Any tips on that?
