Got my Tamron 18-270mm lens and wanted to try the zoom out. This is also my first attempt at taking a picture of the moon.

Looks good , maybe a tad soft on focus but not much . Did you use the noise reducer in your camera ? If so turn it off when imaging planets and the moon . This might account for the softness .

Yes I had the noise reducer on for this. I was also hand holding this one and using manual focus so that probably didn't help either. I'm not good enough for manual focus yet  Thanks for the tip though! Tomorrow I will try using the tripod.

Thats ok lots do the same thing . Tripod is really a must when shooting this type image . Turn the IS off also if you have it on this lens . It's not needed when on a tripod . Also go into your Menu and tools section and set it for mirror lockup and that also will help when shooting the moon . Do you have a remote shutter switch ? If so then also use it . All these tips can help get a sharper image . Look forward to another post of your image .

Correct that is a 100% crop that I put onto a 1024x768 black background.

Yeah I've read about the mirror lockup trick and I don't have a remote but I usually use the timer instead until I get a remote. Tonight is another clear night ( oh wait every night in Arizona is clear ) So I will go back out and attempt it again.

Try staking and blending 2 or 3 together.

Can you explain more please? Are you saying to take multiple shots and stack them?

Try staking and blending 2 or 3 together.
Won't make much difference mate.
There is one of my threads on here somewhere where we go into details about it. End result is under 500mm, not much point in stacking as the atmosphere doesn't come into play as much.
Nice shot for the 1st time, you will be hooked soon :)
