Giottos makes screen protector film to match the size of your LCD.

Here's the 1.8" one which should fit most of the Canons.

Jessops in the UK do a pack of 3 that fit any camera / PDA / phone. Its only a fiver (£5.00). Good move if you want to keep your screens scratch free. Use a cedit card to smooth them on.

You can get the palm pilot ones and cut them down to size, you can make at least 2 out of each single protector since the LCD's are much smaller than a palm pilot.

The screen is covered by a user-replacable plastic cover that costs around $10, the LCD isn't actually exposed. I wouldn't bother.

I see you have a 20D. Is this true for the XT as well?

Try this website:

I have used their lcd cover on my 10D, 20D, and 1DMkII. It is made of acrylic plastic and is crystal clear. It can be removed if need be. I love it and it does not distort the view in any way.

Good Luck,
Jeff

Jeff - have you used the Hoodman flip up cap? It looks good, but will the added depth make handling the camera, and getting your eye to the viewfinder more awkward?
