Hello,

Over the past few years the wonderful forum members have helped me choose the proper equipment for my needs. To this I say thank you!

My next purchase...a Gitzo Tripod (compact)

I am looking to purchase a compact Gitzo Tripod, and I am torn between two models...the GT1541T and GT2840C. Both of these models measure less than 17" folded, and currently priced similar ($499 and $475). Besides this common fact, here are some Pros in support of each one:

Gitzo GT1541T (Traveler)

Pros: slightly shorter folded (16.1") and extends to taller height (44" to 52")...than the GT2840C

Gitzo GT2840C (Basalt)

Pros: Higher weight capacity (22lbs.) and larger diameter head mounting plate...than the GT1541T
Height: extends to 35" to 44"

While the GT2840C will probably more stable of a tripod, the shorter extended height will cause me to have to stoop down slightly when using.

My equipment which will be used:

Canon 5D MKII, with 24-70mm f/2.8 and 70-200mm f/4
My personal height: 5' 10"

Here are the specification links to both

Any thoughts you have would be greatly appreciated! I have added a Poll to this question, but would like to hear your thoughts and reasoning!

Happy Holidays!

For travel of any kind, I would get the 1541t. There is an excellent review thread (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=538298&highlight=1541t)on it. I think it would be perfect for the gear you have.
