What am I doing wrong?
Out of all the pictures I took of the sky this is my best one and it is NOT as sharp as I hoped it would be. Quality is maxed and exposure wasnt changed as I thought enough light was in place. ISO 500 used and the Daylight setting was in effect. Could it be the whole tripod thing and me not being steady enough?

How sharp can a sky picture be? seriously, though, it looks like the center focus point is in the middle of a particularly featureless cloud. Perhaps you could manually focus on a distant edge of something on the horizon, use a higher f-stop (bigger number) to ensure focus.

I might have pointed the camera a little higher up, so the one streak of blue could be near the bottom edge and the rest of the picture be stormy. Cloud shots can be neat when there's a good mix of dark and bright clouds.

kind regards,

David

What camera? (ISO 500 isn't common on most dSLRs) and EXIF data? Clouds move very fast, plus they cover a large areas so that'd be difficults DOF to hold.

The building looks pretty sharp, so you probably weren't focused on the clouds.

This was taken today at ISO 50 I believe and I did not mess with exposure. I did try to use manual focus but didn't get anywhere so what I did was take David's advice and just put the center of the camera toward the sun spot and hoped it would develop from there. http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_smile.gif
