Talking about mixed lighting night mere! I did my best to balance the ambient (Christmas Lights) with my flash. I think I did pretty well.

Dude in a white tux. Interesting.

Nice shot though. Love the background.

Usually the mix of temperatures would suck. In this case it's actually pretty cool*.

Well done!

Try making gels for your flashes to help balance light. It works. :)

*actually it's "warm"... ahh photography puns.

Example of a shot using gels to balance light (the light in this room was REALLY yellow) the lady is lit by flash, the background is ambient. The gel comes from one of those coloured semi-transparent folders you can buy (now I use proper gels):

Nice shot though. Love the background. Yeah, He had rented a white tux when they went to their first prom. So, it had significance.

Yeah, I need to get gels... I have to do so though. Yeah, mixing lighting usually REALLY sucks. I am pretty good in post to remove color tints, but it would be easier in camera. LOL! Thanks for the tips!

It is a bummer I lost a good bit of sharpness through photobucket. Oh well...

These sort of things can be used as gels:

Cut to size with a dab of velcro to keep them in place (or a rubber band). Not sophisticated, but it works.

I think the lighting looks real nice from a color balance perspective. It's a wonderful shot, but if I were to offer a suggestion (it's what I do), it might have been an even more interesting shot if the ambient were down a stop or so. It's an all around very bright picture. If the background were down about a stop, the couple as well as the Christmas lights would really jump out of the picture.

what's not to like. It'll be one of the couple's favorite shots, I'd bet.

Very nice. I would however, get rid of the bright rectangular light above their heads if you can. Other than that, it's a sweet shot that they'll really be happy to have. Well done!
