View Full Version : Too Green?

Advice needed, I'm having problems with this image - is there just too much green? Basically, what I'm asking is the scene worth shooting again perhaps when the field is more ripe and a golden colour?

Not a good day to shoot, lots of grey sky so I had to expose for the sky and this is a blended image - it's also a panorama shot, two rows of five portrait images cropped to a 3 x 2 ratio.

Thanks for looking

Hi David

I think you're right, its a bit 'samey' colourwise. Now if you've got a picture of a poppy that you could add to the foreground... or there are some great plastic ones now. Go back, stick it in the ground and click away.
Seriously though, I do think it would be better with some different colour

I like the picture a lot. And I think you're right, a touch of color would really stand out. I think it could be almost anything. Do you have any willing models? Kids? A girlfriend? Hmm.... two kids, one with a red shirt and one in yellow. They're playing hide and seek in the field. maybe one is standing up in the middle looking around, one is crouching down trying to hide in the foreground. Or a man with a colorful plaid shirt with a pitchfork or something standing with his back to the camera.

But maybe a better sky would do the job. If it was a nice blue with a few puffy clouds, that might be all the color you need. But I know how frustrating it is to wait for the "right" sky. If that field isn't a short drive away... well, good luck. :)

A polarizer would heighten the contrast and bring out colors.

I don't think it's "too green" but don't see anything to hold my attention. If that's a house in the background at the right, you might process it lighter to bring it 'out'?
MCB has some good points.
BTW, I'm not seeing green. It's sort of an olive color.

Frank - forgive me for saying but what colour is olive?
Here in the UK we call it Olive Green! Green being the word in question! ;)
I'll try that with the building though - thanks:D

MBC - Many thanks for such a detailed critique - it's not too far away so could possibly set something up on the lines of your suggestion.

Trevor - thanks for your input - I carried one of those plastic poppies for years and just when I needed it it wasn't in my bag! ;)

Thanks to everyone

Olive would be Franks way of saying that the green in the picture is a bit on the brownish side, I would guess... because that's also my impression.

I'd like the image to have a lighter, juicier, more 'green' green ... but maybe that's just me
That Ireland kind of green, maybe

Best regards,
Andy

Yes. Olive to me is similar to the 86,92,33 I see a lot of in that pic, where a similar toned green would be around 0, 100, 0 in RGB colors. (Or somewhere in there) ;) It's just that the whole 'tone' of the shot is a bit on the dull side?
Depressing.
Dying on the vine as someone we know might say. :D

I think the problem with the pic is not the green, but there doesn't seem to be a clear point of what the point of the pic is. Cloudy days are great for photos because of the lack of harsh contrast.

Maybe a tighter crop on the tire tracks in black and white with high contrast. Maybe even a nice grain. I know PhotosGuy wouldn't find it dull then. ;)

It was the green that attracted my attention in the first place and how it looked so even as it rolled into the distance -- it looks nothing like I saw......:(

Thanks everyone for all your input - I may mess with it a little more.......but until I do here's the best thing for it!

Cheers

LOL! I'm not sure that I'd go that far, but I do know the feeling! It wouldn't be the first time that I "saw" something in the viewfinder that I didn't see in a print! ;-)

I think some small object in there of another color would make the green really pop.

I think the problem here is it is not green enough. I really like the prespective. If you shot this on a sunny day the greens would be much more green and you would have a nice blue sky to add another colour to the image.
