This was shot with a new lens I got for Father's Day. There is a whole big drama that goes along with the purchase of the lens, (if interested see http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=80150 ) but I wanted to get some comments and critiques of the photos.

Thanks for any and all replies, comments and critiques...

Whoa! Cute child and all, but a little too close IMO. :-)

Yeah, "too close" was might first thought, too. But I understand the urge to get in close and capture the eye and eye lashes. I did the same thing more than once. :)

I've seen a lot of baby pictures that go the opposite direction. The kid is sitting with some toys about a mile from the camera. You can't even tell what he/she looks like. You really want to see the kid close up so you can try to figure out if it looks more like the mom or the dad. So even though those shots are way too close, I think they serve a purpose for emailing back and forth to friends and family. Not something you'd want to mount on the wall, but informative for curious relatives. :)

Agreed.
I was thinking along those lines while typing the response. Pictures this close tend to be more descriptive of the relationship between photographer and subject hence my initial reaction. Mom or Dad OTOH will have a completely different response.

In such an instance, Mom and Dad's opinion carry the day....their child...their photograph. God Bless 'em. :-)

I agree with these guys.....get a little more distance or we'll start to think that the kid is macrocephalic.

BTT: Nice pics. I like them, the one that's showing the lack of teeth is especially cute. You don't see that everyday.

Thanks for the replies. I do understand the points and will take them into consideration for next time. The new lens dictated it since it was 70-300mm and I was only 8-10 feet away. My wife LOVES them though...my mom too, but without looking at the date, you really can't tell if it was my oldest boy at six months or my new baby girl that I just photographed

I'll have to post some of her on the beach. She really hasn't taken a BAD picture. I'm thinking baby adds to boost my amatuer photography budget!! ;)

Thanks again.

Eric

A doc...... I am one, and Macrocephalic is a word :)

The kid is photogenic, so keep trying and you'll get great portraits soon.

HEY!!! I just looked up "Macrocephalic" and she does NOT have an unusually large head!

We just had her checked up and the doctor says she's boarderline, but still shy of fitting the definition! ;)

Actually, she's perfectly normal, just the comp. of the photo doesn't show you she's proportioned! :D

Deltawebb, cool down. I never said she was macrocephalic. I just said that taking shots from such close distance made your baby's head look big. I hope you didn't take it the wrong way because that wasn't my intention. I'm sorry if you took it that way.

No worries!!! I was just joking with everyone. ;) I didn't take it any particular way and thought I'd try to be funny. I wouldn't care if my kid was macrocephalic, I'd still love her just the same and subject you all to her pictures anyway!
