Great shots. Their somewhat matching clothing ties the pictures in very nice. I bet they ask you to do the wedding.

These are really nice Julie. Perfect balancing of natural light and flash, especially on the close-ups. I agree, they'd be crazy not to ask you do to their wedding if they haven't already.

Thanks.. and yes, I am shooting their wedding in July :)

Thank you! I've really worked hard on my balance of flash and ambient over the last 6 months, so hearing that makes my day! :D
The engagement session was part of their wedding package

Beautiful, Julie! So, since you know of my interest already in learning more @ flash, etc, on photo#1, what was your lighting set up?

Michelle,

My set up for #1 was:

17-55mm 2.8 lens 1/60 f/3.5
580ex II on camera, diffused
580ex II off camera with a 20" softbox camera right

A quick and easy trick that I learned on how to balance ambient with flash?
NEVER shoot on a bright day into the sky. I always place my subjects in front of a darker background. 1, 2, and 5 were shot in front of bushes and brush... nothing that would bring about major hot spots.
Then, when I do shoot with the sky in the BG, I make sure it's at the right time of day (30 mins before sunset) You can control the sun much easier when it's at your side and not at it's brightest. Control your surroundings.... don't let them control you ;)
Hope this helps

Thanks for the set up info & the tip, Julie. What do you use to fire your flash in the soft box?

either just slaves or Cactus V4 triggers.... the cheaper alternative to PW's... I think the Cactus' r more reliable when it comes to the 580's

I love them! My only criticism is the airbrush in #1 & #2, maybe lower the opacity slightly so they look a bit more natural.
They made a great decision hiring you for the wedding too :)
