I don't quite think my boy is ready for bed yet! What do you think?
Oh boy that 420ex is a dam fine flash. That room was pitch black. I couldn't even see what I was taking the picture of until the AF-assist lit up!

The equipment really worked well.

HAHA! What a killer series! Great work. Simply awesome. Nobody knows the trouble I've seen..... Hey I know a great bail bondsman. Can spring your kid in a heartbeat, but that would be defeating the whole purpose of sleepy time eh? Nothing more beautiful than a child asleep. Ahhh I love it when my 2 are sleeping, better when the wife is out too.....then off to the PC and PSCS muhahhahahahahhahaha
OH your PP work is fantastic!

Just the usual levels adjustment. A little USM and a run through Noise Ninja.

Thankyou all for your wonderful comments. I got these made up to 6x8 today. And I am going to frame them together as a series. I think it will look fantastic.
I too was amazed at the power of the flash. The room was so dark I had to keep pressing the shutter button half way to get the red AF-assist to keep flashing. The red glow from that was all I had to compose the shot. Makes me wonder how good that 580ex would be. Hmmmmm......

Excellent! Great series. I think I know why your boy can't sleep. It could have something to do with all the flashing lights in the room...
And thank you. I knew it was possible to take a good flash picture. I can't do it but I knew someone could. You've encouraged me to keep trying.

Beautiful – I bet those shots would make a real good basis for a collage or some thing
Were you using the 50mm 1.8
Cheers

Absolutely, the 50mm 1.8 lives on my camera. I can only imagine what the 1.4 is like. But I have to keep dreaming about that one.
But if you are interested, this is what I did with the shots.

Those are some really great shots! The lighting is really good too. Did you bounce the flash off of the ceiling? Think that I may need to get one of those flashes. Great work!

Yes, bounced up and slightly back over my head. That way it came off the celing and the top of the wall. I was pretty close to him, so I didn't want all the light comming from directly above. Worked very well. I basically only ever bounce the flash. I think I used it direct once or twice, and didn't like the result.

Those are INCREDIBLE!!! Great captures and they turned out fantastic in the frame.
I've been deciding what to do with the budget I was given for Father's Day and it's a daunting task since I have just started in photography. I was looking at flashes tonight and considering the 420 EX Speedlite and you just solidified my descision to get it!!! Thanks for the help. I think I'm going to work in the EF 50mm F1.8 II also.

Its been better than I could have imagined. You won't be dissapointed. I plan to one day soon get the 580ex, and then use the 420 as a slave. But for now it is working a treat.
