I love that photo! I can't put my finger on why, but it just looks so exquisite. Furthermore, the background you chose works nicely. One thing is kind of strange though... even with the detail on the petals, my eye is captivated by those BRIGHT green stems. If i'm seeing things right, that flower is just about to bloom, and I'd enjoy the shot even more if the tips of the petals were visible. Then again, I could just be a crosseyed raging lunatic.... Either way, those are my thoughts. Keep up the good work.

Dave,

You apparently know your flowers! Yes, they are close to blooming, but for some reason appear to be wilting early. Too bad.

The stems and leaves are indeed bright green, but what you see is reasonably close to the way they look. My wife has them displayed in a cobalt blue vase, and the combination of deep blue, kermit-the-frog green and deep pink is quite remarkable. I scored big points with these flowers!

I did catch one with the petals parted for a view of the stamens:

Thanks for commenting.

I agree that full petal would be nicer. I prefer this shot to the 1st. The 1st's top-of-image stem seems a bit extraneous. I did not notice the wilting.

The pink and green are so great & pastel.

But... your mention of gorgeous cobalt blue tones made me wonder why the vase was not included in your composition.

Gracias, amigos! Always learning ...

Howie, I took out the stem in the first photo. Nice improvement; thanks for the suggestion. One of those "Why didn't I think of that before?" kind of things.

The reason there is no shot of the flowers en vase is that, by the time I got around to shooting them, some had already begun to turn/fade/wilt/die. The two posted here were the best of the survivors. If I had charged up the camera three days earlier I would have gotten the group. Oddly, so far, they still have not opened up. I think they may not make it that far...
