I am a decent photographer but my photoshop skills are lacking. Tried a search but came up with nothing. Could someone explain or send a link that describes how to change a color picture into b/w but at the same time keep only the one object you want to accentuate in color ?

Generally, you will use one of the selection tools (lasso tool, etc.) to select the object you want to remain in color. Then, use the Invert Selection option to change the selection to everything else (that you want to be B/W). Then, desaturate the selected area to remove the color.

That's the very simplest method. I'm sure others will suggest you convert using a layer and so forth, but for down and dirty quick work, the above method will get you by.

Thanks.

Nothing to it. Did what I wanted.

There's many ways to do this, but another quick and dirty way is to just desaturate it, then use the History Brush on the parts you want colored.

Adjustment layer: Mix Channels (start with 30, 65, 10 and play from there, don't forget to tick the Monocrome box). Then paint with a black brush on the adjustment layer to bring out the colors.
