So my dad upgraded and got cs3 for my computer. I used to have an Intel dual core processor with 4gb of ddr2 ram and an onboard video card for photoshop and that ran fine but i needed an upgrade so I can play games and whatnot. So I bought a Core2Quad chipset and paired that up with 8gb or ddr2 ram and an Nvidia 220GTS. I also installed windows 7 home premium as well. So I installed photoshop and now it runs horribly! Worst than my old dual core setup. Its a fresh install and photoshop went through the update process and everything! What did I do wrong? Is cs3 not compatible with a 64bit version of windows?

There is another conversation going on about that same topic. Here's the link HERE (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=802235).

Just to bounce an few idea's before you head on over to that thread... Do you have Kaspersky or Mcafee installed? I've heard of older programs being put into what is called a Sandbox. If this is the case, it may run more slowly.

Have you tried shift-clicking the application and running as Administrator once just to see if something isn't installing right?

I have the entire Adobe suite for CS3 on my PC and it's about the same as yours and I run with zero problems.

Have you installed the latest version of iTune's? CS3 comes with a dated version of bonjour which has caused people a lot of grief in the past. It's usually network related, but I'd give it a try.

Are you up to date with all Adobe and Windows 7 updates. Maybe there's a fix in there somewhere for you.

Hope that helps.

Everything should run perfectly, so my guess is that you don't have the right drivers installed, or have programs (as Maxxum mentioned, bonjour, which is pointless in a W7 environment since windows takes care of everything and more for you, you don't need to update it, just uninstall it) that shouldn't be there.

And you won't be playing any games with that gts 220, unless you like to play HL2. You'll need something better, like a gtx 260 or better to play most new games unless you turn down all the settings and lower resolutions.

No, Windows 7 cannot do everything Bonjour can basroil. If there are Mac's on his network, if he uses iTunes &/or Apple TV, iPods, using Bonjour as a printers, using Sony's multiroom equipment and many other fuctions.... It's pretty irresponsible to just say uninstall it when it could cause more problems. Perhaps you should just have said "If you are not using these services.... you can uninstall Bonjour."

Well, itunes, ipods, and iphones don't actually need bonjour to function. apple tv doesn't need it unless you sync it with an itunes library on your computer (in which case your computer would also need it). And all sony products I know of don't need it either. It's more of a thing of "uninstall it now, and if you actually need it, your program or hardware will tell you why it needs it and you can install it again, takes less time than figuring out if you need it or not"

mm. thanks for the insight. I do have mcafee installed but the subscription is ending soon so ill see if uninstalling it changes anything. Itunes is also installed in my system alongside bonjur (< thought that was spyware a long time ago)

And yeah i noticed the 220 is super weak but so far all i have been playing is MW2 and source engine games.

This may be a dumb question but did you install all the drivers?
