I never post anymore...so here ya go

randomly went out to a wakeboard comp/demo out at the lake yesterday, some alright riders to give me an ok chance at nice pics...of course the traffic on the lake was pretty rough, and for the first time ever I got nauseous looking through my camera trying to keep riders in frame. Mad props goes out to all pro watersport photogs...cause damn it was hard to shoot, lighting shifting on each run, glare off the water, boat bouncing up and down, go up for an air -- rope goes slack letting me know they just dropped out of my DOF totally...lol...damn fun though, so here is a few from the boat ride they let me take

01. damn that high-noon light, ruined what was gonna be the best one!

(You "kids" just don't know when you have it easy!) OK, I'm done quoting my father! ;)

You've got some great shots there! Good job!

Looks like a fun day Will! Some great images there - #9 is top banana! I just can't imagine how hard that must be to photograph - makes speedway look like shooting fish in a barrel!

Will,

these are great shots!

I really love #5, but of course the action shots really rock!

Best regards,
Andy

Amazingly great shots again Will.......... Bah humbug on the chicks ;) (you can see that anytime). How often do you see someone on a wakeboard upside down hung in midair with the water froze in time...........excelllent work.
How do you do it? Send a bit of the magic this way.

haha...luck yo, dead serious, the boat was bouncing the riders in and out of frame so much, i just pushed the camera for the best exposures i could get right as the run starts and left it alone, since it all was going so fast, and once the rider is in their set you cant stop and check your exposures then change a setting really, the boat made a loop around the course before runs, i prefocused as best i could to judge for the rope slack during the trick so the rider would stay in my DOF (that was freakin HARD), they were usually 75-85ft away in the air and i had it set pretty closed to infinity on the dof ring thingy...just got lucky with some sharper shots...and in frame

optimal watersport situation, riding on a shorter rope on the edge of the outter wake of the trick, waterproof case and a medium to widish lens...ive yet to figure out how they have a fill flash in some of those situations though, unless they are taking something like a point and shoot they dont care about out and if it gets ruined, so be it...confuses me to date...but when its not your gear its much easier to live with...

rarely do they shoot from the boat for magazines from what i have gathered, and in many shoots its all staged so they know what to expect, in a comp, on the boat, its all on the fly, you gotta move as quick as you can.

I posted on a expreme sports photo forum and most were about a wider shot, keeping the wake in frame...i dont agree, not without a staged shoot where you could rpefocus and check out the whole situation and have the boat linup for the rider being in the best lighting, it was literally impossible in my situation, and after my short time of shooting ive been taught to fill the frame in such occasions.

the newspaper ran some photos, wish they would have contacted me first, their stuff sucked for the most part...but oh well

Been there, done that. Sort of a nightmare. Funny, but a nightmare :D

Great shots. #2 and #9 are my favorite.
