Anyone used an ST-E2 with a Canon D60 ???

And are they really $200 (or whatever the equivalent English pounds in my home country !) ???

Ouch! I was hoping for a £10 adapter that would trigger my 550 for me .....

Any ideas anyone ?

I've used the ST-E2 with my D60 and 550EX. Works fine.

What is the problem?

By the way, the whole rig with the camera, the ST-E2 and the 550EX, communicates both ways, whereas some adapter might just trigger one way with no further feedback. The ST-E2 just makes a slightly more elegant solution.

If you use optical slave triggers or something like that, and if you are in an environment with other photographers (such as a wedding hall), then your slave trigger can get set off by the flash from others, and that is not good. Using the ST-E2, you are wirelessly (radio) coupled.

I've had some problems with this combination (D60, 550ex, ST-E2). On one occasion only the modeling light would fire but the flash would not fire when the shutter was pressed. I've not been able to figure out what causes the problem.

All I can say is that it works. When I first got that combination, I tried some tests. In several situations, I was cussing the damned thing, because it seemed to be failing. However, in each case, I re-read the parts of the camera instructions, the ST-E2 instructions, and the flash instructions. I concluded that it was user error on my part.

As I stated, there is two-way interaction going on, and if any one part of that does not like what the other parts are doing, or what the user is trying to ask for, then the whole thing locks you out.

In other words, there is a fool who can overcome any foolproof scheme.
