Nice shots! Except for the last "Squint shot". I suggest that if you'd done the same shot/pose at 180 degrees from where you did, her face would have been in the shade & the light would have looked nice on her hair & flowers. There are a lot of variations on that you could try like a bounce card, fill flash, or raw processing with a bit of the "fill light" slider. Try it sometime. ;-)

Lovely young lady and I like the last shot best, "squint" and all. Hey, it works for Clint Eastwood.;)

Clint had a .44 & I'd never critique his shots! ;-)

PG - we did that variety as well using reflectors but I didn't get precisely what I wanted - but it wasn't for lack of trying.

Great work! I especially liked #3 and #4. I also take senior pictures for children at our high school who are in my special education class. Most of them can't even afford the WalMart studio, so I do it for the cost of prints only as a graduation gift for them. I may use the idea in # 4, if you don't mind.

MT, She's a very pretty young lady. That rock (Or whatever it is) wall in the first shot looks like it would make an excellent backdrop for studio style portraits. ;)
Numbers 3 & 4 are my faves for showing Her smile close up. (I like the squint) :D Nice work.

Liza - I'd be flattered. Watch out for honey bees though.
Bruce, that is actually a very narrow (one car width) underpass. It is a favorite spot of mine, not only for the background but because it is angled in such a way that in the afternoon the light reflects off the far side wonderfully difused.
Thank you all for the comments.

Ahh, THAT explains the nice subdued lighting. ;)

DPP is Canon software to convert Raw images (Digital Photo Professional). USM - unsharpen mask.

I like the first shot especially and agree that the background is very neat. I like 'graffiti' style backdrops.

Nice shots. I think you were to close to the wall in shot number 3 which through the focus of just a tad but it's still a nice shot.

I also like #4 the best. (What squint?) I did think it might look better with less foreground and more background. But that is just me. The important thing is that the young lady likes them (and I'm sure she does).

The 1st image is terrific and #2 is also very good !!! I don't care for #3 that much because of her hands being cut off. I'd like it more if the bottom hand was entirely cut off OR both hands totally showing. (more image on the original file ?) And #4 I don't like at all. The squinting doesn't bother me as much as other things. (but if the image had been created with the sun behind her it would have been better) The main problems ... all that space below her. If it had been composed as a horizontal it would have worked. There is little in focus. An image composed horizontally with lots of room on the sides and with the foreground in focus, and the background out of focus, would have been great ... if backlit and a reflector was used to light her face at a 45º angle.
