I just got a new Canon Powershot SX20 IS for Christmas and I was wanting to buy a polarizer filter for it. My boyfriend and I do a lot of fishing and I think it would be a good thing to have. What do you all think?
Also, I was wanting to maybe start some small photography jobs and I was wondering what would be a good thing to start out with shooting?

I think it would benefit your fishing hobby.
I would suggest that whatever jobs you want to do...PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!!!
For example, if you want to do group sessions or singles, practice on your friends. You don't want to shoot a realy client and end up with bad results. Everyone's advice here is very helpful but you really need to do things yourself.
For example, after four months of photography I thought I as ready for doing a session. So my friends hired me and boy was that an experience. The scheduling, people showing up late, fooling around, light changes.
If your not familiar with post processing programs like photoshop don't worry about that. What's the use of learning post editing if you can't get your initial exposure right?
There's SO MUCH more info to discover but I'll save that for other people and your own experiences.

Also, I was wanting to maybe start some small photography jobs and I was wondering what would be a good thing to start out with shooting? IMO, it's WAY too early to start doing that?
1st, what do you like to shoot?
2nd, are you any good at shooting it?
3rd, can you get GREAT results every time?
4th, got backup? What do you plan to do when you show up for a "job", & your camera/lens/lights crap out? ;)
