Every year around Fathers day the Pioneer Valley Steamers have an open house to show off here backyard trains, railroading in miniature. That and they give rides around the tracks. Everything for Steam to diesel :) :)

I'm not sure that I'd let my neighbors see me driving one, but those are kind-of cool. I like the real steam engine.

Know what you mean.  It is a rich mans hobby thats for sure so I guess you don't care what the neighbors think.  Those engines cost in the thousands and most of those guys have there own machine shops at home to build some of the parts.
The Steam engines are really cool .

The dog!! HAHAHAHA! Well now I want to build a train too! LOL!
My favorite is the 6th (comin' round the bend), with #1 being a close 2nd. The edge of the building bothers me though...

Spirit I couldn't agree with you more on the building edge on the first one, but those little trains come up on you fast and you tend to miss whats in the background.  That dog was something else, stayed in the car and just kept riding around all the time I was there.

I just love the expression on the other though... "Round and round I go... Yep! That's about it". lol! Fantastic.

ha ha ha
I think the driver is holding the dog's tail tightly rather then watching where he is going
(and he has his safety belt on...the dog has anyway )http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif

Great shots and a cool hobby, those engines must have great transction to pull the weight, they llok like they should stay in the same spot and just spin the wheels. I love the "coming round the bend" one too. great.

Thanks Marie and bluetit. Marie that dog just sat there and looked around at all the people The engineer is stoking the fire on the little steam engine. The engines have an unbelievable amount of pulling power. No strain at all on them, I have a photo of one much smaller than these pulling people around.

either that or he is stroking his own fire Sandyhttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif
was j/j
I guessed he was doing something with the 'works'http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif
I think the dog is strapped in ( for safety reasons I guess)
he could be suicidal and jump and cause everyone else to dive trying to save him
and spoil their ride

they have a fun train something like it in Tramore, County Waterford if you ever went there Daragh ?
though not sure the engines would be as powerful as these from what you say Sandy
thanks

(I like to think ) the dog is tied up, he has no choice !
I do know they enjoy a ride very much
I brought mine home in the bicycle basket when it followed me as I walked across the plains (nearly eight years ago)
the photos are very funnyhttp://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif

These pics bring back childhood memories for me, Stoney. There was a place here in IN. called "Kiddieland" where they had a little train like that. It would pull about a half dozen cars around a rail for about a mile through the countryside. We just loved it when the engineer would blow the whistle when we went through the covered bridge.
I wish I had pics of that place from 40 years ago. It's a strip mall now.
