I really enjoy shooting these guys... this first young guy was performing like a champion,, and managed to get some great lighting as well

Wow, those are really high on the water. I want to go wakeboarding now.

it's a cable tow....not a boat, you get some good hang time off those things...

these are really great. The light in the first one makes it the best I think. On a cable tow, how do they generate the wake for them to jump?

the force generated is from the pull you exhert against the cables force, press down on the board during this action and it pop's, creating a jumping effect as you pull your power back up, the force against the cable pulls you into the air...

if that makes sense, its not that difficult, you can get some good hang time rather easy if the physics of it make sense in your head...

....I'd love to try one of those parks. I've got to think its still better behind a boat though. Although, the boat maintenance, insurance, boat lift, etc, etc... often get to be a chore.

Nice Shots...

Thanks for the explanation. I guess since water doesn't compress, it essentially becomes a trampoline in a situation like this.

Whats a cable tow look like? Anyone have a pic of one? I've never heard of this.

I dont have a picture of the cable tow.. but its basically a SKI drag lift on a lake... that goes round in a circle

the guys 'in shot' are some of the hottest boarders in the UK, and are equally at home getting a tow from a boat.. with the wake from a speed boat they can still get in some unbelievable air

try doing them from the back of a boat..... I have taken MANY good wakeboarding/tubing pics from the back of the boat.... VERY hard to hold the camera still though, unless you are on a very smooth lake.

My experiences shooting these guys are very different to yours, I have shot from a boat twice and thought it was like shelling peas in comparison to the cable tow

although it was a pretty calm lake I was on.. but would still think I would get far more keepers than the cable tow, I have a huge number of images that go in the bin with the cable

yet with both times on the speed boat I had a huge number of keepers
