Hi
Has anyone here tried WC-DC58 wide angle on Canon EF Lenses???

Many consumer EF Lenses like 28-105mm have 58mm front threads. I would like to see some samples if anyone has the same.

I know that the WC-DC58 is for Powershot Series cameras but if the image quality is really good then its worth using on EF Lenses.

Thanks
Leo.

Haven't tried WC-58 on the 28-105, but have tried Olympus WCON-08 (with 58-55 step-down-ring) on my 18-55 kit lens.

Did not work :(

Image had really bad chromatic aberration and blurring in the corner areas of the image. Of course, an 18 mm lens is more demanding than a 28 mm lens in that respect, but if I look at the price of the WCON-58, then you will most likely get a better price/earnings ratio by buying the 150$ Sigma 18-50 lens.

Best regards,
Andy

Hi
The 18-55mm is itself not a very good lens and putting another one on top of that will surely degrade the quality. But what about some lenses like Canon 20mm prime or Sigma 18-50mm EX. Since there is a 1.6x Factor on DSLRs, they no longer remain wide angle lenses on DSLRs. So if you stack a hight quality WA Lens like the Canon WC-DC58 or the Olympus WCON, it may help a little bit.

thanks

As I told you ... it didn't work.

But ... the problem was not the 'bad quality' of the 18-55 (It's not stellar wide open, but at f/8 it is about as good as the 17-40 L, just to let you know)

Problem is that the calculation of the WA converters is not compatible with an ultra wide EOS lens, IMO. I used it a lot on my G2, with great results. However, the image on the 20D was not at all usable. I have to see if I still have samples, so I can post them. Also have to check if I did any test shots at 28 mm focal length and how those turned out. Maybe it's not so much of a problem at longer focal lenses, but I was interested in the wide angle.

Those converters are optimized for the smaller camera lenses.

My other idea is that if it was really good on EF lenses, everybody would be using it

Best regards,
Andy
