Anyone experience with either or both lenses? My gut tells me Canon has better image quality but how much better? How do they work on portraits? My next purchase is one of these macros. It will be used on my D60 so any help is greatly appreciated.

I guess you are choosing between EF 100/2.8 Macro USM and the Sigma EX 105/2.8 Macro?
I would go with the Canon, but there is another combattant. The Tamron 90/2.8 SP Macro. That is almost as godd as the Canon lens, with very good judgement in tests.
The EF 100/2.8 Macro USM is good at portraits but ofcourse the EF 100/2 or teh EF 85/1.8 is a better choice, since they have much faster AF. Even if you put the range on 0,48- on the 100 macro it will take some time to focus. But its really sharp.. macro or portrait.

I disagree with Jeppe. I owned the older model 100/2.8 Macro and it autofocused very slowly. I tried out the newer USM model and its AF is quick, only incrementally slower than my 50/1.4.

I dint say it was slow.. only that the EF 85/100 was faster. I found the EF 100/2.8 Macro USM a bit slow when moving from around 0,5 to 2 meters, but, when its already at around 2 metres it will be fast.
