I would stop using the ISO 400 as you need a lot of light to use it. Stick with the ISO 50 or set it to Auto and let the camera take care of it. What kind of night shots are you talking about? Indoors or outdoors? Your pictures will always have a certain amount of grain on them when the light levels fall regardless of what camera you use. It all depends on how much you are prepared to put up with.

yep, use iso50 if you can help it .

try using this software to filter the noise (grainy effect)

www.neatimage.com

it smoothes out the grains .. careful not to overfilter or your photos would turn out as if you poured water on them and starting to melt .. play around with the software and you will be able to get the hang of it.

good for portraits, cos it makes your skin look so smooth! =P

Try to do a different thing.
Switch "long shutter" On, put your camera on a tripod, put ISO to 50. And do several shots with different manual exposure. I tested this way in almost complete dark room indoors - very good shots, like in daylight. Maybe a little noise, but it's OK.

Try to use tripod, to make the camera stand still.
