Well, the day started as hot as Saturday with temperatues approacing 30 degrees. By mid afternoon the thunder, lightning, hailstones and rain arrived. I have a feeling summer this year is going to be during Xmas week.
Anyway, just a very few shots to show you the worst and some of the best of the day. One shot I won't post, but was on TV, is of one of our lady emergency doctors doing her "singing in the rain" act at turn one during a halt in proceedings. It gets you like that I'm afraid. And, we do have two gorgeous doctors on circuit...... I don't feel well :)
Porsches trying to race in the rain. This was abandoned, wonder why?

The last BTCC race of the day, starting in the rain

This Formula BMW driver had to take evasive action to avoid the spinner on the left

The one for the boys. Working on the grid has the odd perk

I'll add a couple more later in the thread, but in the meantime I need some sleep.

Fantastic shot of the Formula BMW at Lodge. Very nice indeed. It looks very soggy for the Porsche race!

Ken
Great shots as always, no 1 makes for an interesting image.
but have to agree with Glen the formular BMW is the one I like best.
I spent all weekend at Mallory park, dripping with sweat in the heatwave, I chose not to drive my Lotus on the circuit in favour of photographing the cars.
did not see any rain fortunately.
I will post up some shots from Mallory.
Thanks for sharing the pics.

Great photos Kenny, we watched it on TV - the rain was horrendous but you've got some great shots.

It was certainly the worst rainstorm I have worked in by a long way. The only upsides were that I had very little competition for pictures as other photogs made a beeline for the press centre, and the fact that Oulton Park, like most of Cheshire, is built on sand and the water drains away very quickly. You can go from a couple of inches of water to a damp track in ten minutes and a dry one in thirty. Even the grass car parks don't get bogged down.
A couple of shots with comments:
I do like working the grid and poking the lens in any open car window that beckons:

I called in to see this tream today and this was their favourite:

This coming weekend it is my Legends buddies and I have to finish of an assignment, that started with their first race of the season. Should be fun as the Legends always deliver good value for money.

Great shots as usual Ken, especially like the shots taken on the grid! Was a little further north than you on the Solway Coast near Carlisle all weekend (some shots later this week), and while the rain came down north and south of us, we stayed dry. Conditions look pretty awful, but have given some very interesting shots.
Cheers,
Simon.

Love the shots.... rain shots are fun to see for a change....
quick question - what do you use to protect your camera in these circumstances? Local track here runs rain or shine as well and last time I went there it did more of the former then the later... so I ended up holding a large golf umbrella... not the best way to shoot. I also developed fog between my UV and Lens - so I just too the dang thing off. If you get a chance - would love to know what best practices are for shooting in the rain like this.
Cheers!
