Usually the birds in the area are pretty cooperative, but they must have know I was trying to get some test shots, so all I got was a lot of mourning doves, and always facing away from me.
The first shot was from a tripod, Aperture priority, set at F9, 1/640 sec 400 mm, ISO 400. I cropped some extraneous roof out of the image. In the non-resized version, the feathers are very detailed, and the muddy colors are, well, the actual colors of a mourning dove ;)

Of course as I was packing up, after sitting outside for an hour or so and enjoying a little dinner al frescoe, a robin stopped by for a few seconds. This was shot handheld, with the camera on automatic (350 mm, f7.1, 1/400, ISO 400). Once again the unresized image is very detailed.
