Here are some shots of male and female Common Yellowthroat. I took these with Canon digital rebel XT, with 400mm 5.6 lens. I know the male was taken with manual focus and I believe the female was too. I'm totally new at digital cameras, but I'm getting the hang of it and these came out better than I expected. I find that unsharp masking the image really helps refine the photo and bring out the detail. I'd love to hear some comments good or bad. Thanks. BC

That's a tough bird, my experience with them is they don't sit still!!! Good shots.

Thanks for the compliment. Yeah, they are always flitting around. These stayed fairly still and in the same area for quite a while so I just kept snapping away. I was surprised how 'social' they were being.

Glad you like them! They are fairly common (hence the name) and should be down your way too. Look for them in swampy areas or marshy thickets. You may have heard the call before: "witchity witchity witchity witch!"
